My study habits at the start of the year were the same as they were in high school, do what you get when you get it, make it amazing and get it done ASAP. But then of course any one who has ever been to college knows that if you do that, you will most likely explode with frustration and anger. I did.
So I started to look at the study habits of the people around me, which didn’t seem to be really effective either. Most of my friends were and stillare hanging out and having fun. Then of course the day before they have any kind of homework due they are scrambling to write two papers, finish all those Spanish exercises and read a tonof history.
Their situation wasn’t any better than mine, so through trial and error I cameup with the system I use now, which surprisingly has me ahead of schedule on homework!
First: I went through my planner and wrote down the things I have to do weekly for my classes. I will use Inquiry as an example, every Tuesday and Thursday of this semester has ‘Blog’ written in it, and every Wednesday has safari written in it. By doing this I never forget about a blog or safari assignment, and they are always done well before they are due.
Second: I review all ofmy syllabuses every Monday night and split up the weeks work equally between the days. In history class I am expected to read a chapter a week, so Isplit the chapter up into sections and read each section on the night I choose to assign it to myself.
Third: Whenever the teacher gives me a project or paper, I write down in the space of the day it is due: *English rough draft due* and I highlight it in yellow. This way it sticks out, then I break the project down into steps like I do with my history readings and I assign them to myself.
Fourth: I write myself little notes like the one in this picture about babysitting; doctor’s appointments or just even important events going on and I highlight them. This is how I always know what I am doing.
Fifth: I have bound myself to my assignment pad. As much as I absolutely hate it, I know it’s in my best interest. I do every thing the day I assigned it and by doing so, I am much less stressed and I have more free time inthe end.
