Grade inflation doesn’t seem like a big problem to me… I have only ever seen it happen in one class, and that’s math. For as far back as I can remember my math teachers have hiked up my grade, or given me extra credit opportunities to do so. This doesn’t bother me at all. I am horrible at math and I know it and openly admit to it. I also admit to trying my hardest in my math classes and never doing all that amazingly at it.
I have done it all stayed after, had a tutor, and studied and practiced for endless hours, my teachers knew this and tried to help. I would have my teachers explain things as many ways as possible to me and try to get a better understanding of the problems. Sometimes it would work others it wouldn’t. The times were it didn’t work which were in fact less than the times were it did, they would “help” my grade. Either through optional extra credit or just by moving me up a letter grade. For the most part it was on tests and quizzes, I only got bumped up a few times on my report card.
The reason I have been okay with this my whole life is because I don’t need math any more than the average adult will need math. I am not a math major. I can add, subtract, divide and do simple algebra, I feel comfortable were I am at. I think that as long as you are only getting small inflations in university-required classes that don’t have a relation to your major. You need to pass the course and it’s the teachers job to move you through it, if all else is failing it is okay to push up a grade, but no more than by one letter.
